Powders
Powders, flour, icing, protein powder, ground nuts and seeds, dry and loose ingredients for food recipes... These powders can be called so many different things.
1. What are our prepared powders?
In one sentence – they are ground nuts, seeds, or sea buckthorn..
2. What are our nut and seed powders and how do you use them?
We press oil from organically grown nuts and seeds using the slow pressing method in a barrel. Since this method of pressing is very gentle, 20%-30% of the oil remains in the nuts and seeds after the oil is extracted. And since no heating is used in the oil pressing process, all the other valuable ingredients in the nuts and seeds are still preserved along with the oil – micro and macro elements, vitamins, fiber, proteins, etc. – which our body can use to its advantage. After the slow and gentle oil pressing process, the nuts and seeds are ground into powder. And this results in a pure and easily digestible product for the body, which can be conveniently used at any meal. It can be used for cakes, pies, waffles, cookies, pancakes, as well as in the preparation of main dishes in meat, fish and vegetable dishes, sauces and stews, replacing part of the wheat flour with it or just as a seasoning. But you can also use it fresh – sprinkled on porridge or breakfast cereals, mixed with kefir or yogurt, added to cottage cheese or dessert creams, preparing healthy snacks with dried fruits, added to green cocktails and smoothies, or simply sprinkled on fresh salads. One good and convenient way to use our prepared nut and seed powders is to make plant milk.
3. Why the name – powders?
The name "flour" is probably more familiar. However, for us, "flour" is more associated with baking and thermal processing of food, thus narrowing the scope of application of the ground product. Our prepared powders can and we highly recommend using them fresh, because then your body will receive the maximum benefit from what nature has created.
4. Why do we think powders are a convenient way to take nutrients?
One way to preserve the availability of various plants, berries, fruits, vegetables, herbs and other fresh products used in food for a longer period of time during the off-season is to turn them into powders. Then they can be stored for a longer time, in powder form they are more versatile, they do not spoil so quickly, but still retain all their valuable properties. Seeds, nuts, sea buckthorn and Jerusalem artichokes are excellent products in terms of composition. And all that remains is to add a couple of spoons of powder to your portion so that the food you eat becomes more valuable to the body. This is called conscious eating - a person obtains information about which product is valuable and necessary for his body and also puts it on his plate. At the same time, when using powders in small quantities, neither the size nor the appearance of the portion changes much. Sometimes this is especially important for parents whose children are pickier about food and often refuse to eat a lot. Thus, not receiving a complete and sufficient diet. So our powders are a product that can be added to a child's favorite food in small amounts, and parents will know that by eating it, the child will have consumed a sufficiently high-quality food.
5. What is Sea Buckthorn Powder and how to use it?
In our opinion, Sea Buckthorn is a Great Plant growing in Latvia! It has both a wonderful composition (it contains most of the vitamins and an extraordinary amount of biologically active substances), and the ability to use all its parts – berries, seeds, leaves, bark. (You can read more about the composition and properties of Sea Buckthorn here: Sea Buckthorn) Berries are used for the powder. First, most of the juice is squeezed out of them. Then, using slow and gentle drying at a temperature of 45˚C, the remaining parts of the berry are dried. Then, we place the dried berry peels together with the seeds in a Barrel, where we press the oil using the slow pressing method. Since this method of pressing is very gentle, after obtaining the oil, 20%-30% of the oil still remains in the Sea Buckthorn. And since the oil pressing process does not involve heating, all the other valuable ingredients – micro and macro elements, vitamins, fiber, proteins, etc. – that our body can use for its own benefit are still preserved in the berries along with the oil. After the slow and gentle oil pressing process, the berries are ground into powder. This results in a pure and easily digestible product that can be conveniently used at any meal. Sea buckthorn powder can be used for cakes, pies, waffles, cookies, pancakes, as well as for preparing main courses with meat, fish and vegetables, in marinades and breading. However, it can also be used fresh – sprinkled on porridge or breakfast cereals, mixed with kefir or yogurt, added to cottage cheese or dessert creams, whipped cream and jelly cakes, green cocktails and smoothies, in cold sauces or simply sprinkled on fresh salads.
